MEMBERS ON THE MOVE

White Cliffs Country Club’s Executive Chef, Michael “Mickey” Beriau of Falmouth, Massachusetts was honored with the National Chef Professionalism Award at the 57th Annual American Culinary Federation National Convention held in Orlando, FL, July 21-24.

The National Chef Professionalism Award, sponsored by the Nestle Corporation, is presented to the chef who exemplifies the highest standard of professionalism through certification, continuing education and training, culinary competitions and community involvement. 

Chef Beriau is a Certified Executive Chef and a member of the American Academy of Chefs (the honor society of the ACF).  Beriau graduated from the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY and has more than 30 years experience.  Through his efforts, Beriau was a gold medal winner at the 1988 Culinary Olympics in Frankfurt, Germany, and served as Assistant Manager for Culinary Team USA 2000.  He has received two ACF Presidential Medallions, is an ACF sanctioned culinary competition Judge, and received the ACF Northeast Regional Chef of the Year Award in 2000.

SCORE’s highly popular “Successful Small Business” course will begin September 4th at Cape Cod Community College.  The course (4 C’s #WGB075) will be held 7 PM each Tuesday night for seven weeks and will cover a wide range of topics useful to business people and the those contemplating starting a business.  Reservations can be made by calling the College at 508-375-4012.

Saturday, September 1, 2007 the 6th Annual Falmouth Chamber of Commerce POPS Goes The Summer festival and concert, presented by Cape Cod Five Cents Savings Bank, will take place at the Barnstable County Fairgrounds in Falmouth.   Pre-concert festival activities start at 4 PM with a variety of family activities, art exhibition and demonstrations and live music, including performances by the Caribbean steel drum band, "Magic of Steel."  At  7 PM, the Cape Cod Symphony Orchestra and featured guest vocalist and Tony Award winner Debbie Gravitte, under the direction of Royston Nash.  The evening ends with fireworks, designed and produced by Atlas PyroVision Productions of New Hampshire. The 11th Annual “Cliff Walk®”, a 7-Mile walk along the Cape Cod Canal in Buzzards Bay, will be held on Sunday September 9.   After the Walk, participants are provided with a day of fun-filled activities for the whole family; a barbecue lunch, a great band - The Moonlighter’s, raffles with hundreds of items donated by local businesses and prizes for the top 3 highest fundraisers in both adult and children’s category.  They have moon-bounces, face painting, contests, dunk tank, balloon man, special appearance by the Cape Cod Corvette Club and other activities for children. Festivities of the day are also open to the public (non-walkers/non-participants), for a $10 per person donation (includes lunch).

The Annual Beachmoor Golf Tournament, which benefits the Bourne Council on Aging Food Pantry.  This year’s tournament will be held on Wednesday, September 12, 2007 at The Paul Harney Golf Club in Hatchville, with a putting contest beginning at 12:00 and at 1:00 a shotgun scramble.   The entry fee of only $100.00 includes a box lunch, golf & cart, and dinner at The Beachmoor immediately after the tournament.  Following dinner, prizes will be awarded for first, second, third and last place teams, as well as longest drive and closest to the pin.  Guests may join us for dinner at 6:00 for a $40.00 donation.  For more information on registering your team or an individual, hole sponsorships and how to donate prizes, please ring 508-759-7522 and ask for Rob Pacheco or Mike Degan. 

The First Annual Douglas J.
