MERMAIDS ON CAPE COD RECEIVE CAPE COD SCORE AWARD:  Shari Assaunt Honored

BOURNE  – Shari Aussant, owner of Mermaids on Cape Cod, was selected by the Cape Cod Canal Region Chamber of Commerce to receive a Build a Better Mousetrap Award from Cape Cod SCORE at its annual awards breakfast held Thursday, May 19th  at the Old Yarmouth Inn.

Mermaids on Cape Cod is not a traditional kind of store. It is not a shop on a main street or a little mall kiosk.  Instead, it is a store on wheels. Calling in local hand-made favorites to work on a consignment basis started the business plan for "Mer-Made on Cape Cod".  Using a design mockup of the bus, they created buzz on social media pages before the bus had even hit the pavement.  Soon, Mermaids on Cape Cod had people purchasing items from their Facebook and Instagram pages using Comment Selling.  The name "Mer-Made on Cape Cod" transformed into Mermaids on Cape Cod – their Flash Sales became Splash Sales – and this regular Tuesday night Facebook sale is anticipated now by over 12k people weekly.

As their online presence was growing, the bus was being painted a beautiful ocean aqua, the interior outfitted with racking systems, and the exterior detailed with mermaids.  The ribbon cutting took place in 2013 at the Old Company Store in Wareham (which Ms. Aussant and Sandra Assad have co-owned for over twenty years).  A large following was built on the ground as well as online, and the curiosity factor was enormous. People inquired about hosting Mermaids on Cape Cod at their homes and now house parties are a regular part of their summer schedule along with fairs and festivals.

Creating a strong online presence afforded Mermaids on Cape Cod to grow socially as well as publicly.   An online private shopping club was created nicknamed the Fin Club. In less than 2 months, they had over 1,000 members and the organic reach for sales is now at 89% and business has increased.   Their physical presence throughout the region has also increased.  You can catch Mermaids on Cape Cod at town concerts and other well established events in Bourne, Wareham, and throughout Cape Cod.

Today the growing clothing line Official Mermaid Gear has been shipped to 43 of the 50 states, England, Australia, and Italy. With an out of the box and into a box truck idea, a new generation of shopping was formed.   Learn more and start shopping at https://www.facebook.com/MermaidsCapeCod.
