Read more capecod.interviewexchange.com ![]() SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES: The Retail and Group Sales Manager is responsible for oversight of retail at The Shop at Heritage and group sales involving adult-aged audiences and bus companies. The Manager will provide visitors with a top-quality experience and generate earned revenue through retail and group sales, consistent with the character and standards of the museum.
Responsibilities: 1. Develop a vision and long-term plan for the profitable growth of The Shop at Heritage while reflecting the museum’s mission. 2. Develop merchandise mix strategies within the context of non-profit retail that promote the collection, exhibits and current retail trends. Continually research market for new sources of inventory and ensure all merchandise is appropriate and related to museum’s mission. 3. Plan, develop, and find sources for museum-branded custom merchandise including concept, design, production, pricing, and delivery in collaboration with appropriate staff. Maintain organized product files. 4. Oversee purchase of merchandise for resale within the annual merchandise-buying plan (OTB) and within established net profit margin. Prepare purchase orders for merchandise; receive merchandise, verify quantity and cost, and forward necessary paper work to Finance and Administration. 5. Prepare, analyze, and manage annual operating budgets, unique financial reports developed specifically for the store, inventory, projections, etc. 6. Hire, train, schedule, and supervise the part-time retail staff members. Set and monitor sales goals, and performance management. Prepare and present annual employee evaluations. 7. Work with trade and individual groups, receptors, and various tourism organizations on planning group visits to the museum. Work collaboratively with the Manager of Visitor Engagement to schedule and book groups appropriately to the museum’s visitation levels. 8. Establish and monitor cash and inventory control system; conduct annual physical inventory and report inventory valuations to Finance and Administration; maintain adequate inventory levels. Fulfill all sales order transactions; ensure that sales reports are completed and petty cash and sales receipts balance; pull stock for shipments and transfers. 9. Establish merchandise themes and implement these into attractive displays, work with the Director of Marketing on appropriate advertising of store events and products. 10. Oversee the development and implementation of wholesale and Web sales programs. 11. Supervise all point-of-sale retail software and hardware. Manage any problems, issues, and updates required to maintain retail best practices. 13. Take shifts on the sales floor to lead and train by example. Assist with daily operations, public programs, and special events as appropriate. 14. Work collaboratively with the other departments and front-line managers, Manager of Visitor Experience and Manger of Facilities and Security, in order to maintain smooth daily operations and museum functions as necessary. 14. Perform all other duties as assigned by the Director of Marketing or the President & CEO. Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent. Demonstrated 3-4 years retail experience, sales experience or equivalent at high volume attractions.
